Bill Hudgins, Road King Magazine editor-in-chief, and unofficial leader of the trucker anti-defamation league, pops a top over Mello Yello’s big rig-bashing TV spot (select the one in the middle). Having seen Bill do this to about a dozen advertisers over the past decade, I’m struck by what a cliché it is to dipict big trucks as monsters. Even Steven Spielberg, at age 25, did it.
Bill hasn’t commented yet on the most intriguing (weird?) trucker-themed commercial (select “swimsuit”) I’ve seen in, well, forever.
My blogging recently about the demise of a couple of magazines led someone to suggest I was turning my blog into “F**ked Magazine.” So, today, I’m linking to Mr. Magazine (TM), the self-declared authority on magazine launches. Note to Mr. Magazine: Start a weblog for your What’s New, What’s Hot feature.
Also, here are two articles that were published today about new titles:
Poor Magazine, a magazine about and for the homeless, is a new project by a non-profit organization in San Francisco. (San Francisco Chronicle)
Chicago Home (free reg. required), a magazine for people who are not homeless, is a new project by another non-profit organization, Primedia. (oops, I couldn’t help myself.) (Chicago Tribune)
