Always hated that term, coopetition. However, there’s an interesting article in the print version of Advertising Age (sorry, not online) about Gruner & Jahr USA Publishing trying to sell back-office services like circulation, manufacturing and IT to its competitors. While I believe there could be some benefits to outsourcing some of these functions, I doubt I’d find a direct competitor an attractive supplier. (But if you’re looking to outsource custom publishing, I can think of a great solution.
