ePeriodicals eXtra: Earlier this week when Newstand announced it had received $8 million in financing to continue rolling out a PDF-type format that’s designed specifically to present on a monitor a print-appearance publication format, I asked the question, “…if readers really, really want it, won’t Microsoft come out with something that will do it?” Well, they are. I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more about ePeriodicals, but I’ll keep asking, “Who are we trying to please here: publishers, advertisers or readers.” To me, this is but one more attempt at trying to make the Internet something that it’s not. But what else is new?
