Home boy: Somehow, I missed this David Carr profile in the NY Times of Alabama native and magazine executive extraordinaire Dan Hogan.
When Mr. Logan was summoned to Time Inc. headquarters in New York in 1992 from the offices of Southern Progress in Birmingham, Ala., he took over a stagnant magazine business that some said was washed up and was in danger of being spun off. That year, the company had earnings of $328 million before interest, depreciation, taxes and amortization. By 2001, the company produced $909 million in similar earnings, capping 10 years of growth. He enjoyed the success, but never was one for a victory lap in the news media.
Current challenge: salvaging AOL. Bottom line, if he does, he’ll be a legend for the ages.
