Another last word: Martha has started a weblog called “Martha Talks”, well sort of a weblog, but don’t count on her making any more posts.

Alabama: With Rick Bragg and now, Howell Raines, exiting the NY Times, the Alabamaness of the paper will disappear. I don’t think many people will notice, however.

The last word (right) on Martha: I’ve tried, man I’ve tried, to ignore the whole Martha Stewart melodrama despite its magazine-related issues. However, I have failed miserably every time I’ve thought that I was making my last post on the topic. As much as I can understand the dynamics that have elevated the entertainment value of this story (see: schadenfreud), I still think it’s overblown and petty and springs from converging streams of envy, sexism and mis-guided regulatory zealotry. I agree with David Carr’s assessment of the three-ring circus aspects of what we’ll experience in the coming legal battle. However, in terms of its actual importance and the likely results of the entire ordeal, I think today’s WSJ editorial page about sums it up: Weird and weider.
