One down, one to go: Forget this magazine industry stuff. Here’s some really important news: the Titans have re-signed back-up quarterback Neil O’Donnell. News that punter Craig Hentrich has been resigned is expected soon.

Research redux: While it appeared last week, this story just hit my search script radar screen: Alcohol ads in magazines are seen by more black youths than by other youths, according to a new study from a Georgetown University group that issues studies about how alcohol is marketed to youth. Tired: If you’re a hard-core magazine wonk or love stories where John Suhler makes people want to cry, perhaps you can make it through the Wired start-up legend one more time. Here’s an excerpt running in the July issue of Business 2.0 from Gary Wolf’s book, Wired: A Romance. The article reads like a fairy tale in which my favorite part is where Si Newhouse tells Jane and Louis that he will invest in the magazine on their terms. It makes me nostalgic for the 90s. The book comes out July 8, but I understand there are going to be parties all over the country at midnight on July 7 for those who can’t wait.

Favorite lists: Last week I blogged the Chicago Tribune’s Tempo staff’s “Best 50″ list of magazines. Now they’ve given their readers’ a chance to come up with their own list. They say they received “scores of letters and e-mails” which I guess means they received more than “dozens” and less than a hundred. Also, I have very little faith in the integrity of polling data that reveals The Economist is “by far” the leading vote-getter. (via Romenesko) |
