Legend: Inc. founder Bernard Goldhirsh, 63, a legendary magazine success story, was buried today after dying Sunday from complications of a brain tumor. Goldhirsh also founded the successful Sail magazine. (He founded some others which weren’t so successful, but with two like Sail and Inc., you’ve got an awesome lifetime ERA.) A great story from his obituary sums up Goldhirsh’s noted lack of pretense:

Gendron recalled taking a business trip to New York City with Mr. Goldhirsh to meet representatives of the investment firm Goldman Sachs. When they met for breakfast to discuss strategy for the meeting, Mr. Goldhirsh asked him: ”Do you think we have to wear socks?”
