A blog thanks: Despite a reputation for being geeky, the blogger who operates this weblog has never quite understood how this weblog works, technically speaking. So, this weblog would like to send a special shout-out thanks to its new best friend, a person who actually does understand how this weblog works, technically speaking. Steve Kirks, of the weblog House of Warwick, I salute you. (However, I can’t link to you as your weblog’s ISP is temporarily kaput (technically speaking) which you obviously know as you e-mailed me that information.)

Vaporzine update: Oh great. Just what the world needs: Another magazine for small business executives (temporary link).

Quote from BtoB Online:

BusinessWeek announced plans to publish BusinessWeek SmallBiz, a standalone quarterly small-business publication. BusinessWeek’s small-business editor, Kimberly Weisul, will oversee the quarterly publication, which will debut in June. The magazine will be distributed to 500,000 small-business executives who are subscribers to BusinessWeek and other McGraw-Hill Cos. publications in the legal, medical, finance, architecture, engineering and real estate fields.

Disclosure: While I am a fan of BusinessWeek, I am an even bigger fan of another magazine that goes to 550,000 small business owners.

marthettesMarthette vultures update: Gee. It’s been over a month since I’ve blogged a story about wannabe Martha Stewarts. (Previous “Marthette vultures updates” can be found here and here and here and here and here and here and here.) I guess it was time for someone to bring the topic back to life. Therefore, here is today’s version, one from mediapost.com.

Quote:

Katie Brown, host of A&E’s “All Year Round with Katie Brown,” has been mentioned as a possible contender, and her publicist confirmed that the host has “had conversations with several publishers” about launching a magazine. Any such plans are currently on hold, as Brown has recently given birth to a child. Chris Casson Madden, host of “Interiors by Design” on Home and Garden, is also considered a possible heir to the Stewart throne; however, Mark O’Connor, director of public relations at HGTV, said that none of HGTV’s properties are planning a magazine.

I can’t believe it. Why would HGTV hire Mark O’Connor, the world’s greatest fiddler, to be its director of public relations? Perhaps because he’s new to this cable-television publicity gig (I thought he was out promoting this remarkabe CD - p.s.: read the reviews), Mark can be forgiven for confusing the concept of employing a person with owning a piece of property.
