Here’s the buzzword: Dave Winer announces that Rogers Cadenhead and my hero, Steve Kirks, have been working with him to come up with a transition plan for all those orphaned weblogs.com sites. Talk about an impressive solution: In a URL, substitute “buzzword” for “weblogs” and any one of those weblogs will appear like magic. For example, you’ll see the former rexblog at the URL rex.buzzword.com, but I’m not updating that version, so just go there for example-purposes only. Thank you, Rogers and Steve. You are awe-inspiring.

Things that really matter: I just returned to a hotel room after a late evening stroll in the rain. I took this picture during the stroll. I’ve been trying to come up with some words to go with it, but after a dozen or so attempts, I can’t. (Canon PowerShot S330, sepia tone via iPhoto)
Business conflicts, editorial conflicts: This weblog [Macro error: Can't evaluate the expression because the name "ftpSite" hasn't been defined.]
that the bruhaha about Graydon Carter seemed misdirected at his editorial ethics rather than his business ethics. This weblog then took everything back when the company issued its, (paraphrase) “We know what he’s doing and it’s swell” statement. Well, on second thought, there seems to be some privately-held opinions, as reported by the LA Times and others, that it may not be okay afterall.
Dejazine scoop: Rafat Ali is on top of breaking vaporzine news about the [Macro error: Can't evaluate the expression because the name "ftpSite" hasn't been defined.]
and website Red Herring. He say’s look for a September print date. Rafat is a (journalist-)blogger with “birdies.” (I’ll make some relevant liinks back to previous rexblog posts later.)
Ironically, I can’t blog today: I’m attending meetings all day today in D.C. and will be offline until late in the day. Thanks to the people who have pointed to my new address. Thanks to all of the nice e-mails I’ve received. Thanks for the amazing help and assistance I’ve received. Welcome back.
Searching for ideas: You can find some suggestions about recovering old weblogs.com sites on ResearchBuzz building on suggestions from GlenLog. Or maybe it’s vice versa. Either way, it’s nice to see the search & research blogging community’s response to this. For the record, I feel certain that all the weblogs.com content is not “lost” and have been amazed at some pointers volunteers have provided me just in case I had not backed up. There’s a lot of scraping out there. I am sure all the old weblogs.com blogs will reemerge in the coming days…and feel certain the earth will keep spinning on its axis.
