It goes much further than Newyorkcentricity. It’s the centricity of the tourist, gawking at the Capitol in DC and looking for bargain Blahniks off Fifth Avenue. I was born on the doorstep of the District and lived in the Big Apple and feel doubly insulted that this flossy bit of journalistic lip gloss basically ignores the fact these are hometowns for a lot of people, with all the good and bad that implies.
