More White House blogging (and Spirit of America) news: Here’s more on the Iraqi bloggers’ visit to the White House last week, blogged by Jeff Jarvis.
Spirit of America founder Jim Hake writes:
On Thursday, Omar and Mohammed from Iraq the Model and Friends of Democracy, Kerry Dupont from Spirit of America and I met with President Bush in the Oval Office. It was a half-hour meeting with the President. Paul Wolfowitz was also there.
I’ll be posting more information in the next two days but here are two
items.
About half way into the meeting the President said to Omar and Mohammed, “I want you two to know that we are going to stay until the job is done. It doesn’t matter what the rest of the world says. It doesn’t matter what the
UN says. We are going to stay until the job is done. It’s important that
your country knows that.” It was a powerful and moving moment.
After talking about Spirit of America, Pres. Bush turned to Omar and
Mohammed and said, ” You see gentlemen, that is the beauty of America. I
never met this man before but he’s out there helping to win this war on
terror just as much as Wolfie here. That’s what I believe in.” He went on
to talk about the importance of private-sector, grass roots initiatives like
SoA.
Tomorrow night at midnight is the end of the Blogger’s Challenge to raise money for Spirit of America. Remember, the rexblog is a member of Team Buzzmachine. (Learn more about what it is supporting.) Click here to make a contribution. By the way, in honor of the loyal support of this weblog by you, one of its seven readers, I just made a $100 contribution.
I forgot? Someone just e-mailed me asking why I have not pointed to this Folio: Magazine article that quotes me. In it, I say that Hammock Publising would rather work with advertising agencies than compete with them. At least that’s what I meant to say. Okay, so now I’ve pointed to it.

Rex lovemark update: After my recent post about having of collection of stuff branded “Rex,” Mississippi blogger Shawn Zehnder Lea was nice enough to send me this photo she took in Jackson Greenville Greenwood, Miss., of (if I can read where the letters once were) Rex Billiards, obviously a once thriving establishment until some big-box billiard shoppertainment complex moved in out by the mall, no doubt. I think it’s a shame that the county has lost yet another fine establishment that uses my accidental lovemark. On the positive side, however, a quick search of the Jackson, Miss., online yellowpages reveals it has a location of the chain of TV and appliance stores with the Rex lovemark attached. And an exterminator called, “Rex the bugman.” (And (pardon this inside joke for a subset of the seven readers of this blog) there’s also a resident of Jackson named Rex Harvey.)
How Daschle got blogged: I’m sure this WSJ piece is being heavily pointed to, but there are a couple of the seven readers of this blog for whom it should be required reading.
How magazines get started (continued): I’m not going to spend time linking back to all the gambling-related start-ups I’ve blogged. But here’s yet another USA Today story about yet another poker magazine (this one called All In). The article contains yet another quote by a certain university professor (who’s been known to place a bet, himself) who I suggested a couple years ago should join me in launching a gambling magazine called Bubba-Jaqk to be distributed in Mississippi riverboat casinos.
