Sweet tea, Alabama: Over at Hammorati, the Hammock Publishing weblog, a contingent of Alabama natives are observing that state’s “Year of Alabama Food” and it’s down-right mouth-watering (and, okay, artery-clogging).

Scratch and sniff: A Dutch magazine, Nieuwe Revu, has inserted a small plastic bag of marijuana seeds in this week’s issue, giving new meaning to the magazine term, “blow in.” Editor-in-Chief Mark Koster said the insert is a publicity stunt to advocate legalizing marijuana and other banned substances. That such items are technically banned in Holland may come as a surprise to listeners of a certain podcaster who formerly resided there.

Local man gets recognition he deserves: Peter Carlson of the Washington Post makes a good point: when it comes to doing significant things, “local man” is right up there with the President. I’m especially impressed when, almost every week, I learn that local man (or, in this case, local soldier) is on the cover of some magazine, especially when local man can be from both Hawaii and New Mexico. Good job, local man. Other standouts include: “experts” and “sources.”
