Netizens respond: I just noticed that an amazing amount of money has been contributed by netizens to the Red Cross Katrina relief fund via Yahoo! and Amazon.com (which also gets traffic funneled from Google’s front page donation link). As of 10 p.m. (CDT), Yahoo! recorded $52.5 million from almost 370,000 contributors. And via Amazon.com, nearly 97,000 contributors have given $10.5 million.
That’s $63 million just through those two channels.
More amazing, that amount accounts for less than 1/3 of the online donations made to the Red Cross since Katrina hit the Gulf coast.
According to the Daily Red Cross update posted last night (Sept. 6), of the $409 million contributed, $209 million has been contributed online.
