Disaster blog tracking in the post-Google blog search era: If you’re trying to search (as Doc Searls calls it) the World Live Web, I’ve just discovered a feature on the new Google blog search beta is especially helpful. Using the advanced search feature, you can limit a search of blogs to the past hour.
For example, here is a link to results of the word “rita” using the “past hour” limit on blogsearch.google.com. Here is an RSS feed of those results.
Ice Rocket offers a “past day” advanced search feature.
The other popular blog search engines offer a “by date” sort, but I haven’t run across another offering the “past hour” feature. If you know of one, please add it to the comments of this post. Thanks.
As I run across them, I’ll add links to other “Rita tracking” blogs & media sites that are offering blog-like services:
Wall Street Journal’s Storm News Tracker (free) Houston Chronicle’s Rita Weblog abc13.com (includes links to reporters who are blogging) Click2Houston.com khou.com Times Picayune breaking news weblog Shreveport Times Hurricane Rita blog Wikipedia’s Hurricane Rita’s entry
Later: An AP story surveys some Rita-related blog and podcast efforts.
