Blogging for a cause: Like my friend Steve Rubel learned today, about 15 years ago, my dermatologist discovered I had the highly treatable form of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma. In my case, it was removed in the doctor’s office with a simple procedure. (Believe me, I’ve had much worse procedures for less threatening-sounding conditions.)
I grew up in a pre-sun block era and so I must always get checked regularly. We all should.
As you might expect, Steve is starting a blog (it will be at the URL skincancerblog.net) on the topic.
This reminds me of another rexblog friend, Kim Garretson, in Minneapolis (who, by the way, has added his name to the rexblog map like you should), whose experience with prostrate cancer led him to start the unique website, MansGland.com.
Park playlist: I think I’ve admitted this before on this blog, but for some strange reason, whenever I run (that’s what I call jogging slowly) in Central Park, I like listening to the Meat Purveyors, whose music I love but rarely recommend to others as, well, it’s not for everyone. Here’s a free MP3 download — a good example of one of their “progressive bluegrass” songs that just kept me amused for a few miles. I always find there’s something especially amusing to me about listening to them in the middle of Manhattan.
By the way, if you’re in New York City this first day of November, how ’bout this weather?
What Dave said: He’s live blogging the introduction of Microsoft “Office Live.” It takes an hour for them to get to a demo of the product. It doesn’t work. Says Dave: “A total demo disaster.”
Wi-fi wagon: Ford is announcing a new dealer-installed package it plans to offer next year in F-250 pickup trucks. While it’s aimed primarily at the construction trade, I know a few bloggers who would love such a set-up on wheels.
Quote:
Ford expects to offer the mobile office as a dealer-installed accessory in 2006. Pricing isn’t finalized, but it would cost around $3,000 for a wireless-equipped computer, printer and global positioning system…Add-ons like a digital camera and credit card scanner also would be available.
Hmm. If only they offered it in a Mac version.

Travel update: Apparently I’m not the only person with the initials HRH who arrived in New York today. I’ll be lightly blogging for the next few days.
