Publisher Tries to Keep Equine Magazine Going After Hurricanes | TheHorse.com
“Clark’s trying to pick up where she left off with her magazine, Horseman’s Guide of the South Central Region. Katrina hit at a point in the production cycle where the magazine would have accrued more than $50,000 in advertising. However, many of the advertisers’ businesses were destroyed by the hurricane, some relocated, and most just cannot afford to advertise at this time. Normally, Clark would have 300-350 advertisers. She’s down to 63.”
Our obsessions fuel participatory media | Hypergene MediaBlog
“Participatory media is fueled by people who fanatically follow and passionately discuss their favorite subjects. Their weblogs, podcasts, forums and collaborative communities, while perhaps not as professionally produced, are chock full of style, voice and attitude. Passion makes the experience not only compelling and memorable but also credible. You only need to look at all the web sites dedicated to ABC’s hit TV-show, Lost to get a glimpse of this phenomenon.”

A Chiat/Day office in Nashville? Having a Nissan-account out-post of the firm best know for its Apple advertising wouldn’t be such a bad thing, now would it? However, I doubt we’ll be seeing the firm add “Nashville” to their list of primary locations. Rather, I think the word “satellite” or “bureau” will be used to describe it.
Then again, when it’s an account that spent nearly half-a-billion dollars in advertising the first six months of this year, you may actually say, “how high?” when they say, “jump.”
Inherit the Wind blogging: This morning, Paul Chenoweth is asking what people are doing with their “geekend.” Apparently, some bloggers watch TV on Saturday mornings. Both Dave Pell and Staci Kramer caught segments of Inherit the Wind this morning.
On her blog, Staci posted this memorable dialogue from a scene in the movie:
Drummond: You’re going to broadcast?
Announcer: We’ve got a direct wire to WGN Chicago. As soon as the jury returns, we’ll broadcast the verdict.
Drummond: Radio. God, that’s going to break down a lot of walls.
Announcer: You’re not supposed to say “God” on the radio.
Drummond: Why the hell not?
Announcer (covering the mike): You’re not supposed to say “hell” either.
Drummond: This is going to be a barren source of amusment.
Geekendish observation: The director of Inherit the Wind is Stanley Kramer. Any relation, Staci?
Case of the bungled boolean: In Durham, N.C., prosecutors claim a Mac specialist on trial in connection with the killing of his wife did a Google search for the words: “neck snap break” and “hold” before she was killed.
Observation: How can someone who leaves that kind of evidence be considered a Mac “specialist”?
