How to get lots of traffic to a blog post

Phillipp Lenssen asks a bunch of white guy bloggers to tell about their most popular blog post of all time. (I’d have to list this as one of the top-five brilliant blog-pimp posts I’ve seen in the past 48 hours.)

While I wasn’t asked, I decided I would reveal my most visited post of all time.

It is a post that is titled merely “Duh” written on December 5, 2002.

Why all the traffic? It was dumb luck, however in hindsight it taught me a lesson I have never used again until today: Never underestimate the traffic-generation potential of a post that includes all of the following keywords and phrases: “pornography” “Abercrombie and Fitch” “male model” “youthful models” “boxer shorts” “republican leadership council.”

  • I get the feeling this very post will do better than “Duh” because it has the one-two punch of all those key words AND a tempting headline.

You’ve got a good point there, Webomatica. I guess I should have added “Free” to the headline, or something like, “Top 10 Free proven guaranteed ways to get so much traffic to a blog post that your server will melt.”
