Dave Winer is delaying the purchase of a MacPro to see if Apple will announce a Sony Vaio-like MacBook with a 6-hour battery life. “That might be the last laptop I ever buy.” he says. Me too, I say.

be prepared to drop a big ol’ chunk o’ change on a 6 hour mbp. i’m betting that the only way they pull that off is with some ssd hard drives, and not only will they be $$$, but they won’t have large capacities either. but, like everything, there are tradeoffs. if you want instant-booting and crazy battery life, you have to give up hd capacity. however, i bet you could get close to 6 if you turned off bluetooth, wireless and lowered the screen brightness. i realize that killing wireless is not always possible, but it’s not unheard of for me to get about 4 hours out of my macbook.

I apologize for my ignorance, but what is a “sub-notebook Mac,” and what would make it Vaio-like?

Megan: think MacBook mini. Small screen. Very lightweight. Road-warrior gadget.
