The US economy is either going to pick up or stall, according to IMF

As this is the second time I’ve done it, I guess this is now an official recurring feature. Here are headlines on stories about the same topic, in this instance an annual report from the International Monetary Fund, that display the difficulty (or bias) reporters have when it comes to interpreting (or spinning) numbers-laden stories:

  • AP (via Yahoo! News): “IMF predicts US economy to pick up pace”

  • Agence France-Presse (via Yahoo! News): “US economy ‘uncomfortably’ close to stalling: IMF”
  • Tie-breaker – Wall Street Journal: ” U.S. Gets Glowing IMF Report Card”
