Magazine wonk alert. Brittney Gilbert, formerly blogger-in-residence at WKRN’s Nashville is Talking, is now blogging magazine lovers at blogmagazine.com. As soon as she includes a link in her blogroll to the “magazine-news flavor” (http://www.rexblog.com/category/magazines) of the rexblog, it will be just about perfect. The blog is from Brittney’s new employer, Nashville-area-based Magazines.com. As she’s already requested (in public and in private) that I spill out my deepest-dark secrets about the magazine industry in a Q&A, I’ve said yes, but it will be in a few weeks.
I find it odd that the Tennessean has launched a mobile version (m.tennessean.com) and I’m breaking the story on the rexblog, a blog that’s not what I’d describe as a hyperlocal news blog. Well, it’s hard to say “breaking,” as Gannett issued a press release last week. Please, someone tell me that the Tennessean at least broke this story on their own site before I just give up on them completely.
Prediction: Before too long, they’ll disable the m.tennesseean.com site for anyone not viewing it via a mobile device. Why? It performs much better than the regular site. Without stating the obvious, the interface and usability of the m.tennessean.com is far superior to that of the regular site. (I figure the readers of this blog can figure out why, but if you want to see what I mean, compare this to this.)
