A few minutes ago, around 5:00 p.m., a major thunderstorm apparently knocked the power off in much of the western portions of Nashville. From my vantage point on the 7th floor of the 3322 West End Building, Green Hills, Bellemeade, West Meade and Charlotte Ave. areas appear to be without electricty — dark.

Update: (Around 5:15) Talked with someone in the Bellemeade area who has power after a brief outage.

The following is from the Weather service:

* TORNADO WARNING FOR…
SOUTHERN DAVIDSON COUNTY IN TENNESSEE…
THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF NASHVILLE…

* UNTIL 530 PM CST

* AT 452 PM CST…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO 6 MILES WEST OF
BELLE MEADE…OR ABOUT 11 MILES SOUTHWEST OF NASHVILLE…MOVING
EAST AT 45 MPH.

* THE TORNADO WILL BE NEAR…
OAK HILL AND 7 MILES SOUTH OF NASHVILLE BY 505 PM CST…
AND WILL ALSO CROSS OTHER SOUTHERN SUBURBS OF NASHVILLE BY 530 PM.

(Around 5:25) This band of storms seems to have passed through the west part of Nashville. Or, at least from my vantage point, the lightening has moved out.

I was about to blog about the launch of NPR.org/music when I clicked over and discovered they have a streaming version of Nickel Creek’s current Farewell (for now) Concert tour. (And yes, I have tickets to the tour’s final, final stop (for now) on November 29 in Nashville.) Rather than blog, I decided to listen to some music. So read about NPR.org/music here.

Later: Okay, after checking out NPR.org/music, I’m about to declare that it’s the coolest web service since Google Maps. And here’s a gem from Yo Yo Ma’s “top five favorites” list: “My friend Edgar Meyer said I absolutely had to hear the mandolinist Chris Thile. What an amazing musician.”
