Easy question – Who will be the social media marketing agencies of record?

Joe Marchese raises an interesting question over on MediaPost.com about what types of firms will become social media marketing “agencies of record”?

I think the answer is easy and obvious:

They will be firms specializing in online conversation, community and content that are run and managed by people who have spent at least 10,000 hours each blogging, bookmarketing, tweeting, Facebooking, digging, sharing photos, posting video, etc.

There’s no hanging out a shingle and faking it ’til you make it when it comes to the authenticity required to make this work.

  • Amen, brother. It’s really amazing how many folks fail to recognize the vital role SINCERE EFFORT plays in the successful use of social media tools for a client.

  • I’m not sure if we have the 10,000 hours 🙂 But we’ve been in the field for over five years and do work for some of the biggest brands. While personal use/understanding of the tools is a requirement, it’s not enough anymore to use your own work or your firms own social media efforts as work experience.

The next few years will be all about separating those that talk from those that do.
