Maybe I have a Spartacus complex, but I’m typically zigging while others zag. When the herd is moving in one direction, I try to go the other way since it typically does not pay to do what everyone else is doing. There are a few rational lone voices out there who are experts who believe the economic outlook for the last half of the year and 2010 will be decidedly better. Admittedly, they are a minority and they are not in the government. I think there is a sense among many of us that the economy will improve despite the current inside the beltway insanity. As for the zeitgeist of the column...we seem to be happier with reports on the 'half empty glass' rather than the 'half full glass'.
