The term "vanity" is often applied to self-published books when written about in the trade and general media. I've argued that print on demand and eBook platforms make self-published and independent published books a viable option in certain situations — and certainly not "vain" if there is little if any out-put of upfront capital. Stories like this one about self-published on Kindle author Boyd Morrison selling two books to Simon & Schuster will become more common in the future. How do I know this? It has already happened in the music business.
