I’ll probably be live-tweeting some of the Oscars tonight, so I wanted to post my predictions before hand.
Last year, I saw all of the films nominated for Best Movie. This year, I saw only seven of the nominated films (I missed 127 Hours, Black Swan and The Kids Are All Right).
Movie trivia: For most of the past year, until it was nominated for Best Picture, I was the “GetGlue Guru” (like “mayor” on Four Square) of the movie, “Winter’s Bone.” I have no idea why.
Observation: My wife observed and I agree that The Fighter and The Kings Speech, despite being set in the most opposite settings and circumstances imaginable, have plot lines that are remarkably similar. That may have been written about in depth elsewhere, but since I prefer not to read reviews before — or even after — I see movies, it was fascinating to us.
So, here are my predictions for the “major” awards. If my prediction for who “The Academy” will choose is not my personal favorite, I’ve add my favorite in parentheses.
Best supporting actress: Melissa Leo in “The Fighter”
Best supporting actor: Geoffrey Rush in “The King’s Speech” (Equaly deserving and truly amazing – Christian Bale in “The Fighter”)
Best actress: Natalie Portman in “Black Swan” (My favorite: Jennifer Lawrence in “Winter’s Bone”)
Best actor: Colin Firth in “The King’s Speech”
Best picture: The King’s Speech
