NYC Transit system Google map mashup: Haven’t seen this before: A New York City “Interactive Transit Map.” When you click on a point, you set the starting point of your route. When you click on another point, the program will display the shortest subway route between those two points, including walking time.

Yeah, this is a cool mash up. I thought it was hilarious when I picked two random spots and was told the quickest way there was to walk….just a quick 2 hour walk, no big deal.
Wow. And the mashup even has a sense of humor and likes to play practical jokes on its users.
Very cool idea, but I wouldn’t rely on it. It told me it’d be best to walk 50 blocks south from my old apt to my old job. Even in the worst of rush hours and crammed up against the stinkiest of subway riders, I wouldn’t consider hoofing it.
Perhaps this is, indeed, a joke map.
It should show that you should walk everywhere, in light of the potential transit strike.
