Are you reading fewer books?

Are you reading fewer books? The NY Times is reporting that, “Internet users are more likely to cut back on reading books than to curtail their magazine consumption, according to a recently released survey by Jupiter Research.” I know that’s true for me. In 2002 and 2003, I listed all of the books I read. Back then, I tried to read at least one book per week. As soon as I stopped listing them on the rexblog, I stopped reading as many books. I think I’ll start listing them again later this week.

For the record, I still read as many magazines as I ever did. I’m sure of that.

  1. I still read a ton of books. I find it a lot more fulfilling then spending time on the Internet. I like it that way.

  2. I read more magazines, fewer books. No TV (or DVDs only anyway). But, not to fear Rex, I’m watching the first season of Lost now on DVD – so I’m not missing out.

There’s only so many hours in the day is my excuse. I tend to read books more when I’m traveling though. A business trip is about the only time I can finish a whole book these days.

  3. Hmm. Interesting report. For a good while there I wasn’t reading physical books very often. Then I started getting reccommendations for books from people online — and poof, I am reading lots of books again.

My consumption of magazines has dropped to one subscription since I’ve been using the internet to find those specialized topics magazines used to fill.
